Description

Wehrmacht Briefcase to Stug Commander 'Freiherr Carl-Friedrich von Jena' (Aktetasche). The black grained leather briefcase is in good used condition, the leather is still supple. An ink-marking is visible inside the fold-over flap and reads: 'Freiherr von Jena, Hptm. u. Abtlg. Kommandeur, Stu.Gesch.Ausb.Abt., Tr.Üb.Pl. Altengrabow bei Magdeburg'. In April 1944 Freiherr Carl-Friedrich von Jena was given command of the Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 394. Under his command, the unit was deployed to Normandy (France) in June 1944 following the Allied invasion. During the heavy fighting around Caen, his unit was heavily engaged and was nearly entirely destroyed by Allied forces. He was later promoted to Major on 9 November 1944. on 22 February 1945 he became commander at the Sturmartillerie-Schule Burg bei Magdeburg, this would date the briefcase between 22 February and May 1945. Rare and interesting original item!
