WW1 Iron Cross 1st & 2nd Class in privately purchased type luxury case. The 2nd class cross is not visible maker marked. The 1st class cross is maker marked 'WS' for 'Wagner Sohn' from Berlin. Nice and decorative original set in good condition!

Description

World War 1 Iron Cross 1st & 2nd Class in privately purchased type luxury case. The Iron Cross (Eisernes Kreuz) was re-instituted by King Wilhelm II on 5 August 1914 for award during WWI. The second class medal was for award to personnel who performed a single act of bravery in combat. The 2nd class cross has a three piece construction and a magnetic core. The cross is not visible maker marked. The 1st class cross has a three piece construction with an iron core and a silver frame, the cross is nicely maker marked with 'WS' indicating production by the company of 'Wagner Sohn' from Berlin. Both crosses are nicely stored together in a privately purchased luxury type presentation case. The maroon-red coloured etui is showing normal traces of usage and is slightly discoloured. A postcard sized portrait photo is stored in the lid of the box, showing a soldier wearing an Iron Cross 1st class, this set was found together like this. Nice and decorative original set in very good condition!
