German 'Gendarmerie' Service Tunic

Description

German Police Service Tunic (Dienstrock) as intended for a 'Leutnant der Gendarmerie'. The police were divided into eight assorted branches of service and during the restructuring the different police agencies were assigned specific identifying 'Truppenfarbe' (Branch Colors), with orange truppenfarbe being allocated to the 'Gendarmerie' (Rural Police). The German Police had no enlisted ranks with the lowest rank being an 'Unterwachtmeister' which was equivalent to the German army rank of Unteroffizier. This is a nice mid war produced police service tunic as intended for a 'Leutnant der Gendarmerie'. Nice quality, light weight, Police green, wool/rayon blend construction service tunic. The straight cut sleeves have simulated French cuffs in chocolate brown wool with dual ornamental buttons to the outside sleeve seams and orange wool branch-colour piping to the top edges. The upper left sleeve has a nice quality, hand embroidered, police officer’s sleeve eagle. The sleeve eagle is hand-sewn to the sleeve. There is a lay flat collar with a metal hook and loop neck closure, a pair of orange coloured collar-tabs are nicely machine-sewn to the collar. The tunic has sew-in type shoulder boards in bright, silver/aluminum braid on orange wool base. The buttons are all the silver washed, pebbled alloy type and appear to have their original stitching. There are loops for four awards and a large ribbon-bar. The tunic is nicely maker marked by the tailor 'Döpke & Wilkens' from Bremen, the tunic is named to a lieutenant and dated 1942. Overall is the tunic in good condition with minimal wear, there are some larger spots op moth-nipping, but mainly on the back of the tunic, see photos. This tunic will make a great display, nice original Police tunic!
