German Imperial Pilots Badge
Imperial World War 1 Pilots Badge (Militär-Flugzeugführerabzeichen). The Imperial Pilot's badge was originally introduced on 27 january 1913 by 'Kaiser Wilhelm'. All pilots, regardless of rank, were eligible. This badge is a nice wartime period issued example made of hollow tombac (Buntmetall). The badge is not visible maker marked. The badge shows very nice & pronounced detail overall, the badge is showing a nice age-patina. The badge has naturally a functional pin & catch construction, the pin however is a period replacement, see close up photos. This badge originates from the inheritence of the WW2 Luftwaffe General-Major 'Joachim Kortüm' (16-02-1898 / 21-10-1982) who saw service during WW1 as a pilot. Desirable original imperial pilot's badge in good used and truly worn condition!
