Kriegsmarine Single Decal M40 Helmet (Stahlhelm M40). The stamped sheet steel construction M40 helmet retains most of its original (field-applied) typical shipboard blue/grey overpaint, sometimes called 'Battleship grey' or 'S-Boat Blue. The paint shows normal wear and scratches caused by usage, see photos. A standard Kriegsmarine decal is applied to the left side of the helmet, the decal is retained for about 80%, the decal has been partly overpainted with the shipboard blue overpaint, see photos but remains in untouched condition. All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet is a M31 leather liner with steel ring. The liner is complete with its original drawstring as found. Due to the thick overpaint no maker or serial number can been seen. Supposedly this helmet was found in a cellar in Kiel in the 70s. Hard to find original Shipboard Blue painted Kriegsmarine helmet in good condition!
