War Merit Cross 1st Class with Swords (Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse mit Schwerter) that comes on its original screw-back disc (Schraubscheibe). The 'Kriegsverdienstkreuz' is instituted on 18 October 1939. The basic criteria for award centered about bravery and service (not in connection with combat). The cross is a zinc example which lost most of its original silver finish. The cross comes on its original and naturally functional screw-back set-up, the small pin (to firmly attach the cross to the uniform) is naturally also present. The cross is nicely maker marked with number 'L/52' indicating production by the company of 'C.F. Zimmermann' from Pforzheim. Hard to find original screw-back example in good used condition!
