WH (Heer) 'Cholm' Campaign Shield (Cholmschild). The Cholm Campaign Shield was a sleeve shield of the Wehrmacht that was instituted on 1 July 1942. It was awarded to German soldiers who took part in the defense of the Soviet city of Cholm, which was surrounded by the Red Army in 1942. In total, approximately 5,500 awards were awarded. The shield is complete with its original 4 prongs and metal back-plate, mounted on a piece of fieldgrey wool, it's still having its original protective paper backing attached. The magnetic-type shield does show great detail, it is not visible maker marked. This is the so-called 'Short-M' type. The shield shows some minor rust but is in overall very good unissued condition. Stunning and rare original shield!
