World War 1 German Mess Kit M1908 (Kochgeschirr 08). The M1908 mess kit entered service before WWI. It was made from aluminum and was painted black. To save materials the M1910 was introduced as a replacement, simplifying the handle design. Despite the introduction of the M1910, the M1908 production continued for a while.
