Booklet: 'Der Massenmord im Walde von Katyn'

Description

'Der Massenmord im Walde von Katyn, ein Tatsachenbericht' Booklet. The Katyn massacre was a series of mass executions of nearly 22,000 Polish military officers carried out by the Soviet Union, specifically by the NKVD (the Soviet secret police) in April and May 1940. Until 1943, nothing was known about the fate of the captured Poles and prisoners of war. On April 13 of that year, the Germans found mass graves in Katyn containing about three thousand corpses with Polish identity papers. A further 1,200 corpses were found during later excavations. An international commission, including members from both occupied and neutral countries, including representatives of the Red Cross, was set up to investigate the mass graves. The commission provided convincing evidence that the murders were committed by the Soviets, something widely reported by Nazi propaganda in Germany and the occupied countries. Aided by the communist press abroad, the Soviet Union launched a campaign to blame the Nazis for the massacres. In 1946, during the Nuremberg Tribunal, Katyn's Soviet crime was blamed on the Nazis by the Allies, in an attempt not to offend Soviet leader Stalin. This is an original German propaganda booklet in which Soviet Russia is blamed for the massacre, the booklet was published by the NSDAP, probably in 1943. The cover is unfortunately showing a tear, otherwise the booklet is in good condition. Extremely rare and scarce original booklet!
