Luftwaffe 'Horchgerät' Headphone
Luftwaffe 'Horchgerät' Headphone. The headphone was used with the directional Anti-Aircraft listening device in order to provide early warning to Anti-Aircraft batteries. This listening apparatus was built around huge funnel-shaped tubes capable of detecting the sound of approaching aircraft over long distance. The headphone is painted in the standard late war tan colour and retains most of its original paint. The rubber ear-cups are in very good supple condition. The headphone is not visible maker marked or dated. I've never seen a second example. This is an extremely rare piece of equipment and would be a great addition to any equipment collection! The original black&white photograph (copyright: Bundesarchiv) is showing a Lutwaffe female auxiliary using this type of headphone.
