Waffen-SS 'Norwegian' Volunteer Sleeve Shield

Description

Waffen-SS 'Norwegian' Volunteer Sleeve Shield. Norwegian nationals were authorized the wear of an identifying sleeve shield to be worn just below the SS eagle on the upper left sleeve of the uniform. Worn for example by Norwegian nationals within the "Freiwillige Legion Norwegen" (Volunteer Norwegian Legion) and after September 1943 when the Legion was disbanded most of its personnel went on to serve with the 5.SS-Panzer-Division "Wiking", the 6.SS-Gebirgs-Division "Nord" and the 11.SS-Freiwilligen-Panzer-Grenadier-Division "Nordland". The shield originates almost certainly from the SS clothing department at the Dachau KZ when liberated in 1945. The shield is in mint and unissued condition and just shows some minor traces caused by years of storage, there is some glue residue on the back from being pasted in a scrapbook. Scarce and hard to find original sleeve shield!
