Wehrmacht 'Splittertarn' HBT Camouflage Smock
Wehrmacht 1st model Camouflage Smock (Tarnhemd) made of HBT 'Splittertarn' camouflage material. The Wehrmacht camouflage smocks were based on the Waffen-SS camouflage smocks and were officially introduced in late 1942. The first pattern smocks came in the army 'Splittertarn' camouflage pattern, and were issued without a hood to members of the Großdeutschland division. The second pattern smocks included an integral hood and came mostly in the army 'Sumpftarn' (tan/water) camouflage pattern. This is a first pattern smock, made of HBT (Drillich) 'Splittertarn' camouflage material. The smock is having five eyelets for a drawstring closure, the drawstring is unfortunately missing. The smock is having two vertical breast openings. The smock is not visible maker or size marked, the smocks were designed to fit over the standard service uniform and are therefore quite large. Inside the smock some 'Statni-Film' stamps are visible indicating that the smock has been used in the early postwar Czech film industry. The smock is showing normal traces of usage and some small damages, see photos for details. The smock is still showing strong colours. Rare and hard to find original smock in very good condition!
This smock originates from the collection of the recently closed Eyewitness Museum and was in display in the diorama in the last picture!
