US M1 Combat Helmet '95th Infantry Division'

Description

US M1 Combat Helmet. The M-1 helmet was developed as a replacement for the M-1917 helmet that had seen use since WW1. The M-1 helmet was approved for production in June of 1941. Early models had solid loops (fixed bale) for the chin straps but they broke off to often and were replaced with a moveable hinged loop. This is a helmet with the fixed bale loops and front seam stainless steel rim. The helmet is complete with its original chinstrap showing the written name of the soldier. The helmet comes with its original liner, the liner is complete with its regrettably damaged leather chinstrap. The helmet liner is marked by 'Westinghouse'. The liner is in overall very good condition. The outside of the helmet is showing a decal with the logo of the US '95th Infantry Division. The 95th Infantry Division arrived in England on 17 August 1944. After receiving additional training, it moved to France one month later on 15 September. The division was sent into combat on 19 October in the Moselle bridgehead sector east of Moselle and South of Metz and patrolled the Seille near Cheminot, capturing the forts surrounding Metz and repulsing enemy attempts to cross the river. It was during the defense of this town from repeated German attacks that the division received its nickname, "The Iron Men of Metz". The paint and decal on this helmet are in my opinion from the later war period, therefore the helmet is priced accordingly. Nice original M1 helmet in good used condition!
