US M1 'Military Police' Combat Helmet
US M1 Combat Helmet. The M-1 helmet was developed as a replacement for the M-1917 helmet that had seen use since WW1. The M-1 helmet was approved for production in June of 1941. Early models had solid loops (fixed bale) for the chin straps but they broke off to often and were replaced with a moveable hinged loop.This is an early type helmet with the fixed bale loops and front seam stainless steel rim. The helmet shows the stamped heat numbers '593', this indicates production by the 'McCord Radiator and Manufacturing Company' of Detroit. The helmet is complete with its original factory sewn chinstrap. The helmet has been period overpainted showing an overpainted larger yellow line around the helmet which has been overpainted in standard us olive drab and painted on top is a smaller type yellow line around the helmet, the abbreviation 'M.P' (Military Police) is stencilled on front of the helmet together with the number '180'. Original wartime MP helmets are extremely rare, this is one of the few originals. Stunning original Military Police Helmet shell!

US 'M1 Combat Helmet' (gevechtshelm). De M-1 gevechtshelm was een ontwikkeld als vervanging voor de M-1917 helm welke in gebruik was sinds de Eerste Wereldoorlog. De M-1 helm werd ingesteld voor gebruik in juni 1941. Vroege uitvoeringen van de M1 helm hadden vast gesoldeerde oogjes voor de kinriem, deze braken snel af en werden later vervangen voor scharnierende oogjes. Dit is een vroeg type helm met de vast gesoldeerde oogjes en een roestvrijstalen rand om de helm. In de helm staan serienummers '593' welke duiden op productie door de 'McCord Radiator and Manufacturing Company' uit Detroit. De helm is compleet met zijn originele kinriempje. De helm is periodiek overgeschilderd met onder de verf een overgeschilderde grotere gele lijn rond de helm die is overgeschilderd in standaard Amerikaanse olijfkleur en bovenop is een kleinere gele lijn rond de helm geverfd, de afkorting 'MP' (Militaire politie) is gestencild op de voorkant van de helm samen met het nummer '180'. Originele MP-helmen uit oorlog zijn uiterst zeldzaam, dit is een van de weinige originelen. Prachtige originele Amerikaanse Marine Helm!
