WH (Heer/Luftwaffe) Gasmask with Canister (Gasmaske M38 mit Blechbüchse M38) complete with carrying straps and a pair of spare glasses (Klarscheiben). All German Army personnel were issued with a gasmask, carrying canister and accessories and were required to have it readily available at all times. Fear of the potential use of chemical warfare agents made the gasmask and canister a constant companion of the German soldier through-out the war. The M30 gasmasks were produced in a rubberized canvas with metal fittings while the M38 gasmasks were produced in molded, rubber and were also equipped with metal fittings. This is a M38 type mask with blue metal fittings, it comes with an 'FE41' type filter. The gasmask is still very supple. The M38 type canister is nicely period overpainted in a dark (Luftwaffe) grey colour. The canister is dated 1939. The canister is named to 'Sold. Tripolski' and showing the painted on number '87'. The canister is complete with both the long and short carrying straps. Nice original gasmask set in good used condition!
