WH (Heer) Signals Officer's M38 Overseas Cap
WH (Heer) Signals Officer's M38 Overseas Cap (Einheitsfeldmütze M38 für Offiziere). The Officer’s M38 overseas field cap (Schiffchen) was originally introduced on 6 December 1938 as a replacement for the old pattern visored field cap that had been introduced in March 1934. The design of the Officer’s M38 overseas cap was based on the M34 overseas cap as worn by EM/NCO’s. Originally the Officer’s M38 overseas caps, were outfitted with an identifying branch of service soutache until regulations of 10 July 1942 abolished the use of the soutache and instructed it to be removed from the caps. This is a private purchased cap made of high quality so-called 'boiled' wool. The interior of the cap is fully lined with tan/grey cotton, there is a small leather sweatband, the cap is size '58' marked. The cap is having silver officers piping attached to the crown and side panels of the cap. On front the cap is having an original applied flat-wire woven cap-eagle and hand-embroidered cocarde, it is complete with an original applied bright-yellow (Zitronengelbe) coloured Signals (Nachrichten) soustache. The cap is showing some normal traces of usage and age and some small moth damages, see photos. Nice original Officer's overseas cap in good condition!
