French M1886 Lebel Bayonet
Description
French M1886 'Épée' Bayonet, as fitted to the Lebel M1886 and later also used with the Berthier M1907 rifles. Introduced in 1886, this distinctive bayonet became an important part of the standard equipment of the French Army during the First World War. The bayonet features the characteristic cruciform blade and the original hooked quillon. In 1915, the quillon was removed as the hook could snag on barbed wire and was considered impractical in combat conditions. Bayonets modified according to this change are commonly referred to as the M1886/15. The M1886 was not only used by the French Army but also saw service with French colonial troops. This M1886 example is having a brass type hilt and comes with it original scabberd. Nice original example in good used condition!
