Kriegsmarine Destroyer War Badge 'Schickle'

Description

Kriegsmarine Destroyer War Badge (Zerstörer-Kriegsabzeichen). The Destroyer War Badge was instituted on 4 June 1940 by Oberbefehlshaber der Kriegsmarine und Großadmiral 'Erich Raeder'. The badge was aswarded to destroyer crew members who had participated in the naval battle for 'Narvik' (Norway). Regulations of October 1940 extended bestowal of the Destroyer War Badge to include other destroyer, torpedo, and E-boat personnel involved in other naval battles. The badge is an early tombak (Buntmetall) version. The badge still retains a fair amount of its original finish showing showing great detail. The badge is complete with its original functional pin and catch and a stabilizing hook soldered firmly in place which was used when attaching to a uniform to keep the badge from flipping forward.. The badge is not visible maker marked but can very likely be attributed to the company 'Otto Schickle' from Pforzheim. A nice and honest original early Kriegsmarine war-badge in good used and worn condition!
