S98/05 Combat Bayonet 1917
Description
S98/05 Combat Bayonet (Seitengewehr 98/05 n.A.), a so called 'butcher' knife. The S98/05 bayonet was introduced in 1905 and modified in 1915 in a new version called 'neuer Art'. The bayonet was a standard issue item and was accompanied by a bayonet frog to be worn on the reverse left side of the load carrying waist belt. The S98/05 bayonet remained in service and was still used during WW2 by both Military and Police units.The bayonet is maker marked by a company from Solingen and dated 1917. The blade is in good clearly used condition, the bayonet is having wooden grips. The scabberd is in heavily used condition, missing the inlet spring, the scabberd has been overpainted, see photos. Still a nice original S98/05 bayonet in in heavily used condition for a fair price!
