This is an Award Document (Urkunde) for the German Eastern Front Medal (Medaille für die Winterschlacht im Osten). The German Eastern Front Medal was instituted on 26 May 1942 to commemorate the first winter campaign in Russia, operation Barbarossa. The medal was also known as the "Frozen Meat Medal". Approximately 3 million examples have been awarded. This DIN-A5 sized document was awarded to Unteroffizier 'Karl Gerth'. He served within 'Sanitäts Ersatz u. Ausbildungs Bataillon 5'. This document was handed to him on August 11. 1942. The document has been folded once, see scans. Nice original award document!
