Kriegsmarine 'Narvik' campaign shield in Gold, mounted on a piece of dark navy-blue wool. The 'Narvikschild' was instuted by Adolf Hitler on 19 August 1940 for award to all Wehrmacht personnel who participated in the battle of Narvik (Norway) between 9 April and 9 June 1940. About 8577 examples have been awarded in total to all branches of service. The late war zinc-type shield is complete with its metal back-plate and 4 prongs and still retains almost all of its original gold finish, the shield is showing great detail. It is having a protective wool backing. The shield is not visible maker marked. Nice original Narvik Shield in very good condition!
