Kriegsmarine Destroyer War Badge 'G.W.L.'

Description

Kriegsmarine Destroyer War Badge (Zerstörer-Kriegsabzeichen). The Destroyer War Badge was instituted on 4 June 1940 by Oberbefehlshaber der Kriegsmarine und Großadmiral 'Erich Raeder'. The badge was aswarded to destroyer crew members who had participated in the naval battle for 'Narvik' (Norway). Regulations of October 1940 extended bestowal of the Destroyer War Badge to include other destroyer, torpedo, and E-boat personnel involved in other naval battles. The badge is an early tombak (Buntmetall) version. The badge still retains a fair amount of its original finish and is showing nice details. The badge is complete with its original functional pin and catch and stabilizing hook on top. The badge is nicely maker marked with 'G.W.L.' indicating production by the 'Gebrüder Wegerhoff' from Lüdenscheid (GWL). A nice and honest original early Kriegsmarine war-badge in good, clearly used and worn, condition!
