Luftwaffe Officer's Upgrade Flight Visor Cap
Luftwaffe Flight Officer's Visor Cap (Schirmmütze). Visor caps were a standard item for all armed forces personnel during the Third Reich period. Although enlisted personnel were issued their caps from government supplies they were also permitted to purchase privately tailored caps. This is privately purchased visor EM/NCO's type cap which has been period upgraded to an Officer's rank by replading the chinstrap for an officer's type chin cord, see close-up photos. The sweatdiamond is present and nicely marked by the famous tailor 'Robert Lubstein' from Berlin and dated 1938, the cap is size 57 marked. The cap is having the yellow 'Truppenfarbe' (branch-colour) for Flight personnel (Fliegendes Personal). The leather sweatband is in regrettably in heavily damaged condition, see photos. Unit markings are however still visible indicating that this officer was a member of the II Gruppe of 'Kampfgeschwader 254' (II/K.G.254) at the 'Fliegerhorstkommandantur Giessen'. The cap is complete with its original early aluminum cap-eagle and cocarde. Despite the damaged sweatband the cap is in very good condition. Still a nice original Luftwaffe visor cap for a fair price!
