US captured ‘vet art’ German Helmet
US captured ‘vet art’ German Wehrmacht (Heer) M40 Combat Helmet (Stahlhelm M40). The stamped sheet steel construction M40 helmet retains most of its rough textured, field-grey paint. The paint shows normal wear and scratches caused by usage, see photos. All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet is an M31 leather liner with eight fingers, the liner is slighlty damaged. The liner cord has been replaced by a US army cord. The shell is marked with maker and size 'ET64' which indicates production by the company 'Eisen-und Hüttenwerke, AG' in Thale/Harz. The reverse interior neck guard apron has a stamped serial number '1385'. The US veteran who captured this helmet and took it home as a souvernir painted 'SS' runes one one side and a 'Swastika' on the other side. The painting has been done very detailed in black and white, see close up photos. Decorative original 'vet-art' helmet!
