This is a nice example of a First World War Naval Wound Badge in Black (Verwundetenabzeichen für Angehörige der Marine). The naval wound badge was established on 24 June 1918 by Emperor Wilhelm II in the same classes and under the same regulations as the Army badge. The badge was instituted in three classes with the class bestowed reflecting the number or severity of the wounds received. The classes consisted of a black badge for one or two wounds, a silver badge for three or four wounds and a gold badge for five or more wounds or loss of a limb. The design shows an anchor with crossed swords inside an anchor chain. The magnetic steel badge is complete with its functional pin and catch. The badge is not visible maker marked. Rare and hard to find original example in good used condition!
