World War 2 US Uniform Jacket of Paratrooper 'Roger P. Derringer'. The jacket is complete with all original applied insignia including an 18th Airborne Corps patch. A Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) is attached below a nicely hand-embroiderd jump wing in blue oval. Inside.
Roger P. Derringer was a partrooper in the 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion (PIB) "Geronimo". The 509th PIB was deplyed during the allied invasion of North Africa in November 1942, becoming the first American paratrooper unit to be deployed in combat. The battalion also fought in Italy, Southern France, and the Ardennes Forest in which the battalion suffered heavy casualties (93% of the men were wounded or killed).
Roger P. Derringer was assigned to the F Company, 2nd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment and later to the 'C Company, 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion' with which he took part in the campaigns in: Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno and participated in Operation Anvil-Dragoon in Southern France. He was awarded with the Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge with four combat jump stars, EAME Campaign Medal with five bronze star devices and the World War II Victory Medal.
The jacket comes together with an original portrait photo of Roger and his original dog-tags with Army Service Number '35281777'. His name and unit are written inside his jacket. Extremely rare original piece of history!
This jacket originates from the collection of the recently closed Eyewitness Museum and was in display in the diorama in the last picture!
