WH (Heer) Gasmask with short type Canister
WH (Heer) Gasmask with Canister (Gasmaske M38 mit Blechbüchse M30) complete with both the short and long carrying strap and a pair of spare glasses (Klarscheiben). All German Army personnel were issued with a gasmask, carrying canister and accessories and were required to have it readily available at all times. Fear of the potential use of chemical warfare agents made the gasmask and canister a constant companion of the German soldier through-out the war. The M30 gasmasks were produced in a rubberized canvas with metal fittings while the M38 gasmasks were produced in molded, rubber and were also equipped with metal fittings. This is a M38 type mask with an 'FE41' type filter. The early short type M30 canister is nicely maker marked and dated 1936, this is the type of canister with a clip for closure. The canister is complete with both the long and short carrying straps, the straps are maker marked with 'ebd' and dated 1944. The name and rank 'Uffz. Heim' are written on the canister. This gasmask was left behind in the Netherlands and found in Walcheren years ago, it originates from an old collection. Nice original gasmask set in good used condition!
