Named WH (Heer) 'Panzer' NCO's Visor Cap Grouping
WH (Heer) 'Panzer' NCO's Visor Cap (Schirmmütze). Visor caps were a standard item for all armed forces personnel during the Third Reich period. Although enlisted personnel were issued their caps from government supplies they were also permitted to purchase privately tailored caps. This is a nice privately purchased Officer's example, the celluloid manufacturer's sweat-diamond ('Raute') is present and marked with 'Marke Berlin' and manufacturer 'M.S. & S. W.' indicating production by 'Marie Slama & Sohn' from Wien (Vienna). The name tag in the sweat diamond is showing the name 'Ellinger, Otto' and size '56'. The Visor cap is piped in the pink 'Truppenfarbe' (branch-colour) for Panzer personnel. The simulated leather sweatband is in used and slightly damaged condition, see photos. The name 'Ellinger' is also written on the inside of the sweatband. The cap is complete with an original zinc cap eagle and aluminum cocarde. The cap eagle is in fragile condition and almost broken, it would like nicer when replaced with an aluminum eagle but I left it as I have found it. The cap is showing some normal traces of usage and/or storage and some minor (moth)damages, see photos. The cap is having a great shape. The cap comes together with a pair of black panzer NCO's shoulder straps in the rank of 'Unteroffizier' and an original Award-Document for the General Assault Badge. The Award-Document is matching named to Unteroffizier 'Otto Ellinger' who was a member within the Stabskompanie I./Panzer-Regiment 3. The document is personnaly signed by Generalleutnant 'Rudolf Veiel' who was the commander of the 2nd Armoured Division (2.Pz.Div.) and a bearer of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Panzer-Regiment 3 was an important armored unit of the 2. Panzer-Division, serving as a primary armored spearhead in Normandy (1944). Equipped heavily with Panther tanks, the regiment engaged in intense defensive combat against British and Canadian forces near Caen and in the Falaise Pocket in which the regiment was largely destroyed. Great and scarce original named Panzer NCO's Visor Cap grouping!
