German WW1 Bavarian Observer Badge
This is a stunning original German Bavarian Observer Officers Badge (Bayern Abzeichen für Beobachtungs-Offiziere). The WW1 Bavarian Observer Officers Badge was originally introduced on 3 March 1914 by 'Prinz Ludwig III., König von Bayern'. The Bavarian Observer reached likely no more than six hundred issued examples. This badge is a nice wartime period issued two-piece construction example made of hollow metal having a separately attached Observer pennant, both prongs however are missing. This is a so-called Quadrat variant marked with a square punch on the pin, most likely produced by the company of 'Carl Dillenius' from Pforzheim. The badge shows very nice & pronounced detail overall. The badge has naturally a functional pin & catch construction. This exact badge has been photographed in detail and published in the book 'Imperial Sky' by 'Stephen Thomas Previtera', the badge can be found on pages 512/517.
